この花器はクリスタルの削り出しによって製作されている。花器の中心に植物を挿す穴（φ20mm＊花器サイズによって異なる）が空いており、また、花器の縁からの穴にかけてすり鉢状になだらかな浅瀬になっていることで穴から溢れた水がその浅瀬にも溜まる仕組み。さらにそのまま水を満たすことによって表面張力を発生させ、花器と水の境目はなくなったように見える。そうすることで花器の存在感は消え、残るのは水の柱と植物だけのような錯覚に陥る。
遠くから見ると植物が空間のアクセントとなっていることを感じられ、近づくと今度は水の表面張力に目を奪われる。デザインという領域の中で、花器が置かれうる環境、植物と水で満たされた状態、そしてそれが使われている状況のなかで、植物、水、そして花器という3 つの要素が、人の立つ視点によって、主役から脇役へ、脇役から主役へと変化しながら互いを引き立て合うバランス感覚をもつプロダクトとして成立している。

This vase is produced by a machined crystal. It has a hole for putting plants in (φ20mm＊depends on the vase size) in the center, and also a smooth shallow in the form of mortar from its edge to the hole. It is a mechanism that the water overflowed from the hole pools in the shallow as well. Moreover, it blurs the boundary between the vase and the water because it causes the surface tension by brimming it. Then the vase makes itself invisible, and gives an illusion as if there is a water column and plants.
We can feel that the plants are an accent of a space when looking it from a distance, and the surface tension of water caught our eyes when coming close to it. In an environment that it can be placed, a shape that it filled with the water and plants, and a situation that it is used, three parts as plants, water and a vase, brings out the best in others with swapping roles of a major part and a supporting part. That is what a sense of proportion this product has.

水たまりに咲く花

shallowsは、植物と水そしてクリスタル製の花器が一体となってみえるという特徴を持つ。花器に水が満たされ発生する表面張力によって、水自体が花器のテクスチャとなる。そして水の表面張力は詩的な表現として作用する。

この繊細な幻覚はシンプルさと美のための理解をもたらし、新しい素材でさえまたは高度なテクノロジーにまさり、代わりに、控えめに述べられた優雅さを表現する。

A flower blooms in a puddle

‘shallows’ combines a crystal vase, plants and water into one form.
The design allows for the surface tension of water to become a textural element – the shallow at the top of the container gives space for liquid to be filled. The water at the surface of the vase acts as a poetic expression for the vitality of the vessel’s function, to give life to the plant in which it contains.

This delicate illusion invokes an appreciation for simplicity and beauty, outweighing even new materials or advanced technologies and instead expressing an understated elegance.
