静謐/Fredfyldt
Inspired by the serene form of a Shinto torii gate, FREDFYLDT is a chair that bridges Japanese sensibility and Nordic clarity. Originally designed for a small shop located on the approach to a shrine in Japan, it was later refined and re-engineered as an independent piece. Rather than tracing the torii shape superficially, the design explores how structure and aesthetics can coexist in quiet harmony. Its proportions were studied from Nordic masterpieces that share a natural affinity with Japanese design, inheriting a timeless spirit that connects past and future, tradition and modernity. The name “FREDFYLDT,” meaning “filled with peace” in Swedish, was chosen as a reflection of that cross-cultural connection and of a personal encounter with Scandinavian appreciation for serenity and craftsmanship. The paper cord seat softens the linear structure, adding a tactile warmth that balances the strength of the wooden frame. It provides comfort without visual heaviness, easing both physical and mental tension.
— not only as a chair to sit on, but as an object that gently shapes the atmosphere around it.
